New Version of FreeNAS is Available (v0.69 Beta 3)

September 14, 2008 19:00 by Norm

freenas I just can't get enough of this product.  Earlier this year I blogged about FreeNAS, the open source network attached storage solution that I use in my home network.  Well I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know that they have released a 3rd beta of the 0.69 stream.

I think one of the things I love the most about this product is how easily it upgrades.  In my setup, I run from a live cd.  All of the configuration data is stored on a USB key, leaving all of the drives available for storage.  Whenever a new version comes out, I simply burn the .ISO, then I shut down the NAS and swap out the disk for the new version.  The only thing left after that is to power it back up and let it loose.  Typically, it runs through a set up scripts to upgrade the configuration on the USB key.

It's just that easy.  Try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
