Is the Yahoo / Microsoft Scandal Coming to a Close?

yahoo-microsoft It would seem that it might be.  If you’ve been following along, I’ve been writing a few posts about the proposed purchase of Yahoo by Microsoft.  You might also note that I am violently opposed to such a decision.  Microsoft already has a bad search engine, buying an equally bad engine will not make theirs better.  Yada, yada, yada.

The latest news points to Microsoft no longer holding any interest in dealings with Yahoo.  Seems a little bit strange to me, but what do I know?  Well, I do know that there is some well-hidden information out there that indicates Yahoo had another purchase offer on the day before Microsoft put their deal in.  Who is this mystery purchaser would-be?  None other than Google.  *gasp*  You don’t say!

I do.  The logic in this one appears to be that Google wanted to buy up the competition to make them a stronger contender when fighting Microsoft.  This also lends itself to some other industry rumors that Google is/will be buying up Microsoft partner companies.  One such rumor relates to digg.com – that’s interesting.  So, at this point it is hard to predict the outcome of the Internet Wars.  Google is certainly more liked than the might Microsoft.  Will another engine rise up to conquer all of the others?

Back to this Yahoo business – it is still unclear as to what will happen with a potential Microsoft deal.  Yahoo has a shareholders meeting coming up in August and I suspect that this potential deal will be a hot topic.  I can’t imagine that there are any Yahoo shareholders that wouldn’t benefit considerably from such a deal.  I bet Yahoo stocks would double on news of a merger with Microsoft.  We’ll just have to wait and see.
