Striking Oil with Google Adsense

April 5, 2008 20:32 by norm

While I haven't exactly struck oil, and won't be quitting my day job anytime soon, the first month of Google Adsense did reap some profit.  I'm not opposed to sharing Adsense profits for this blog with my readers, in fact I think that many of them will benefit from understanding a little bit more about what the Adsense program has to offer.  My first month of Adsense didn't prove to be a gold mine, but it did prove that Adsense does work.

March2008Ads

As you can see, my total earnings for March 2008 were $4.62 - nothing to write home about.  Or is it?  My blog site is generally a low traffic site, however traffic is always on a steady increase.  As more content is created, more readers arrive.  According to Google, in March I had 1000 impressions for the main ad on the page.  This equates to roughly $5.00 for each 1000 visitors, however than number can be lower or higher, depending on click thrus.  This $4.62 didn't cost me anything to generate and the ads are fully customizable, leaving you the ability to make the least intrusive as possible.  This blog is simply an experiment, however I'll continue to play with ad placement and share the results with you.  I'm also planning to add some additional revenue streams to see just what is available.

So I went from $0 to $4.62 in March and already in April I have generated an additional $3.70.  I'm curious to see how far this experiment will go.  I invite you to share your advertising experiences in the comments section!
