Well, I just got home from a visit to the Rogers Centre to check out Monster Jam. I must say that I was pretty impressed with the performance. I wasn't quite sure what to expect going into it, and I hate driving to and in Toronto. I find people tend to drive like idiots there. Maybe that's not true, maybe people drive like idiots everywhere and there are just more of the in the GTA. Regardless - Monster Jam = Good time.
The drive into Toronto wasn't bad. Traffic was relatively good. My biggest problem driving in happened when I arrived at the Rogers Centre and got lost trying to figure out where to park. Easily recoverable though, I just parked at the convention center. We went early (around 2pm) so that we could attend the Pit Party. It was well worth it. We got some really good pictures of the trucks and we were able to see them right up close. I did notice a large number of rednecks and obese people wandering around. We also saw a bike chick wearing a chainlink thong. Interesting. Comfortable? After a few hours, we decided to grab some good and wait for the show to start.
We were in the middle section, between the nosebleeds, and the trackside seats. They actually weren't that bad! They had Street Warriors racing on the track first. That is regular people racing regular cars. A few of them smashed up good on the jumps. They also had 4-wheeler racing and RC cars to amuse the crowd. The trucks were pretty spectacular! A good majority of them got broken at some point through the night. One flipped over, one lost a wheel, and a few had broken axles. The night ended with a demolition derby that was worth the wait. I was mildly disappointed that there was no tractor pulls or Carzilla level destruction.
Leaving the show, I was mildly frustrated that all of the over-priced and crazy vendors were sold out of GraveDigger toques. At one point I referred to it as a GoldDigger toque, but nobody seemed to notice. It was a bitter cold walk back to the car, possibly the coldest night this year. Then we had an hour wait just to get out of the parking lot. Once we broke free, we hopped onto the Gardiner and we were homeward bound. That is, until we had to stop because someone thought it would be a good idea to burn their car to the ground on the highway. People really need to avoid driving cars that are going to catch fire on major highways.
All in all, I rate the event fairly high and would recommend it to anyone looking for a freakish-filled, redneck night out.
